Commerce and art have collaborated in the past, but coming together of India's avant-garde painter MF Husain and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan gives the alliance a new dimension. Their combined effort on a canvas send the mercury soaring among the London art patrons, mostly of Indian origin, as Bonhams, one of the oldest art galleries in the British capital, put it up for auction.
The painting, a scene from K Asif's 1960 magnum opus Mughal-E-Azam, depicting Anarkali lying in a beautiful dress with her head resting in the lap of Salim, had attracted over 250 Indians, whose total worth would be nothing less than £750 million. The painting was snapped up for £160,000 (Rs.1.2 crore). Along with it, an array of art works by contemporary artists such as Satish Gujral, Anjolie Menon was also auctioned for hefty cheques.
Much to the amazement of the bidders, Husain handed over a brush to Khan and asked him to put colour to a sitar, which the actor, to the surprise of many, did quite deftly!

It is common knowledge that the Bhatts' Awarapan will make its international foray in the US, UK and UAE and some other conventional overseas markets.
In a recent development, Studio 18 has succeeded in clinching a deal to release Awarapan in Spain. "Given our focus to reach a wider slice of overseas viewers, this is a huge break-through for a typical overseas film. Non-traditional markets have begun contributing considerably to the overall revenue pie," says Gayathiri Batra, who manages Rest-Of-The-World at Studio 18.

On the sets of AWARAPAN in Jodhpur, when lead actress Shreya narrated ghost stories to Emraan about the Jodhpur forts in the vicinity, Emraan was paranoid of being alone at any given place in the fort and ensured that someone from the unit was always there with him! Another unit member jokingly told Emi (as he is fondly called) about his hotel room being infested with ghosts, after which the actor requested for an immediate change of room.
Director Mohit Suri laughs, “Yes that’s true. Actually Emraan is very superstitious and tends to fall for supernatural stories quite easily.”
