The very moment anyone mentions of the name Dia Mirza, the immediate memory that 'lights' up is that of a sweet girl with a voice to match the innocence that glows on the face. She is none other than Barbie doll personified Miss India-turned- actress Dia Mirza, whose mere smile has so far launched more than a million ships (read 'products'). Read the rest of this entry »

Dia Mirza is not feeling bitter about the lack of success of Acid Factory, a film on which she’d pinned a lot of hopes - it’s the type of all-action movie that’s likely to do better on DVD and downloads anyway. She’s already looking forward to Kurbaan with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, due to be released on November 20th. Read the rest of this entry »

Basically what is seen as a 'Social Service' is something that strays from the ordinary, something that is spontaneous and creative. Yet what one person sees as serving the needy may be seen as ridiculous by another, and don't ask 'Why'. Read the rest of this entry »

Dia Mirza is still very far from what she deserves in the industry and therefore rightly rues the fact that she has not yet found her dream role. She said this in a recent chat with the media. She has been lying low for quite some time though she is being seen in Rakesh Roshan's 'Krazzy 4'. She reveals as to why her name was kept a secret from the star cast of the movie. She has played a journalist in the film, trying to reform the four crazy people. It's an important role. Juhi Chawla plays a psychiatrist and she acts as a journalist. Though the film is a comedy, she plays a very serious role, she asserts. Her role in 'Krazzy 4' is much different from her earlier character in Apoorva Lakhia's 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala' though she plays a journo there, too. She has several movies on hand like Ashu Trikha's 'Zindagi Tere Naam', Sanjay Gupta's 'Alibaug', and another comedy - 'Fruit and Nut' and Soojit Sircar's 'Shoebite' with Amitabh Bachchan. However, she is banking on National Award-winning director Manmohan Mahapatra's 'Bits and Pieces'. Excerpts of the interview:
Are you satisfied with your present status in the industry?
I have done good work and I am almost 30 films old, but I have yet to get that one role which I can really talk about.
What's your latest movie?
I am making an appearance in Rakesh Roshan's 'Krazzy 4'.
How come this fact didn't come out in the open?
I am the surprise package of the film. This was deliberately kept a secret. Rakeshji didn't want the audience to know that I am featuring in the film, as they wanted to give the viewers a surprise.
What's your role vis-à-vis lead actor Juhi Chawla?
I play a journalist in the film, trying to reform the four crazy people. It's an important role. Juhi Chawla plays a psychiatrist and I am a journalist. Though the film is a comedy, I play a very serious role to play.
Isn't your role in 'Krazzy 4' quite different from your earlier roles?
You are right. I played a journalist in Apoorva Lakhia's 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala' in the past. But the two roles are poles apart. Here I am shown doing a lot of social work.
What else?
I am also doing Ashu Trikha's 'Zindagi Tere Naam', where I will also be performing an item song. Sanjay Gupta's 'Alibaug' is also a wonderful film. I am doing another comedy - 'Fruit and Nut'. Then there is Soojit Sircar's 'Shoebite' with Amitabh Bachchan, but it is too early to talk about this.
What are you looking forward to?
I am now looking forward to National Award-winning director Manmohan Mahapatra's 'Bits and Pieces'.

Diya Mirza was recently invited at Sajid Khan’s chat show Sajid’s Superstars where the starlet made some very bold comments (probably it has something to do with her so called ‘bold’ makeover). In 2000, Miss Indias Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza all brought home international beauty crowns and did India proud. Sajid asked Dia as to who does she think is best of the three in Bollywood. Read the rest of this entry »

In her forthcoming Suparn Verma’s flick ‘Acid Factory’, Dia will be seen in a glam-chic avatar. Says Suparn, “The idea was to reinvent Dia and give her a never-before look. Her dresses, her mannerisms and the way she is going to appear in the film are extremely novel. New Delhi-based designer duo Nikhil-Shantanu are styling her.” Read the rest of this entry »

Bips is being replaced really often these days. First it was Prachi Desai, and now Dia Mirza. The Hyderabad beauty was chosen to act in Suparn Verma’s film-Acid Factory when Bips walked out of the movie due to problem with dates. The movie has Dia as lead and solo actress with 6 actors. The actress needed a make over though, for the role. Read the rest of this entry »

During his heydays, Mithun Chakraborty would have never imagined that some other dancer would ever be roped in to perform on an item number for a flick where he would be the lead protagonist. However, that has now happened with his upcoming film ZINDAGI TERE NAAM which has it's USP as his pairing with Ranjeeta. Read the rest of this entry »

Former beauty queen and Bollywood actress Diya Mirza may not exactly be a (late) Smita Patil or a Shabana Azmi, when it comes to acting, but is quite an able performer. Unfortunately, she did not get the kind of success in Bollywood that some of the other beauty pageant winners of her era achieved. Read the rest of this entry »

Recently while shooting an item number for her good friend Ashu Trikha’s film ‘Zindagi Tere Naam’ in Jaipur, Dia Mirza had a tough time as the temperature was as low as 2 degree Celsius. The song was being shot at Sisodia Gardens in Jaipur for almost four nights. While the remaining crew was dressed up in warm clothes, skimpily dressed Dia had to run for cover as soon as the shot got over. Read the rest of this entry »
